prepared to dress the men and women of portland

Two weeks ago, my mini-shop made its debut as part of the grand opening of The Merchant Company, a multi-vendor store featuring handmade and vintage goods in Portland, Maine.

County Seat Supplies provides classic vintage house wares and clothing, with particular attention paid to menswear.  My hope is to present a considered collection of items that you will want to own for a long time, making second-hand shopping a kitsch-free, effortless experience.  Built out using reclaimed materials, the 5x5 foot shop's stock is already quickly changing over.  Mens’ bow ties and ties have been flying out the door – likely due to the season of wedding invites!

Based upon an antiques mall or flea market model, the Merchant Company is a new idea for the city.  Additionally, a 'lab' at the back of the space will offer classes and workshops.  The space feels fresh and the cooperative dynamic is palpable, clear from the amazing response during these first weeks.

The blog is meant to be a central point for activity within the shop as well as for future projects.  Food will certainly be a running theme, along with other creative means of production and consumption.  In a nutshell, I'm interested in considering the value - cultural, environmental, aesthetic - of the things we surround ourselves with.
